Creativity has been my sword and shield through many of life's amazing terrors. Sure, there are practical reasons for why I might continue: to improve as a musician, to stay engaged in musical communities, to learn about myself and the world. But there are simple answers that emerge from this question, too. I do this because I love it. I do this as a gift to myself. I do this for y'all. Each Monday is an outstretched hand.
I continue this ritual as a bold statement to the universe; we are all artists.
Week to week, the primary objective is to document my journey through music. As grander projects take shape, I set flexible deadlines. Some Mondays are completed in a single day, while others require 6+ months of work.
The majority of that work happens in Ableton Live and Davinci Resolve. I use a mirorless camera and sometimes a phone to capture video. Over time I added other software to my quiver such as Wwise, Github, and OBS.
Three experiences were pivotal for the development of my creative spark. In chronological order: the appearance of a gentle guitar teacher (age 13), a musical reconnection with old friends (age 21), and consistent effort accessed through this project (age 26).
So, what sparks creativity? My current answers: community, effort, and empathetic guidance.
I owe so much to the people who encouraged me. I'd like to pay it forward.
